Undergraduate Education at CREDI
CREDI is the only institution in the Caribbean that offers a Bachelor of Education with Honours Degree. Students can choose to specialise in one (1) of the following five (5) specialisations:
· Guidance and Counselling
· Special Education
· Early Childhood Care and Education
· Educational Leadership
· Music Education
All of our Bachelor of Education Degree programmes are accredited by the Accreditation Council of Trinidad and Tobago (ACTT) and Government Assistance for Tuition Expense (GATE
The programme runs for a period of three (3) years except for our Music Education Degree that runs for a period of four (4) years and comprises of two (2) major components:
90 credits taught in face-to-face sessions
The Practicum conducted with a co-operating teacher and evaluator
Schedule of Classes
Classes are mainly held on:
· Saturdays - 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
· One (1) week during the Easter Vacation –Monday to Friday 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
· And four (4) weeks during the July/August vacation- Monday to Friday 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
There are no Saturday classes during the Easter and July/August vacations.
All accepted applicants are required to successfully complete a pre-requite course- Higher Level Study Skills (HLSS), prior to gaining entry into the degree programme that commences in September each year. The HLSS course is expected to begin in April each year. Students who possess a Bachelor’s Degree or higher qualification will be exempted from the pre-requisite course.
The HLSS programme runs for eight (8) Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and maybe conducted at any of these two locations:
St. Dominic’s, Belmont
St. Benedict’s College, La Romaine
To be a successful applicant, students are required to have a minimum of five (5) O’levels that must include the following:
However, all interested persons are welcome to apply as consideration may be given to persons who do not meet the requirements but have qualifications and or experience in the specialisation chosen. In such cases, CREDI’s Admissions Committee will review the application and make a decision as to the suitability of the candidate.
Postgraduate Education at CREDI
The Roman Catholic Church in Trinidad and Tobago invested in the education long before there was a formal school system. We can boast of having the oldest secondary schools in the country. The Church’s investment in education comes from a commitment to the transformation of the human person in keeping with the gospel values by focusing on the practice of education as reverencing the Image and likeness we are created in. In service to our country, CREDI seeks to imbue a culture of servant leadership in educators and social service delivery personnel through academic advancement and professional development. By so doing we hope to witness the literal transformation of our society.
CREDI in collaboration with its transnational partners offers postgraduate programmes which advance the knowledge and skill of educators and pastors.

Blended Learning – The Best of Both Worlds
The ease with which persons can now access the internet has enabled higher education institutions to provide a wide range of courses and programmes to a wider cross section of students. This affords the non-traditional student and persons wanting to pursue advanced degrees the benefit of a more convenient learning environment. All of CREDI’s postgraduate programmes are online programmes which have an additional blended learning component. This means that while some of the curriculum is taught and evaluated online by our international partners, some is also experienced locally, through workshops and seminars.
Blended learning is a term used to describe the many modes of delivery used for teaching students. In the case of our postgraduate programmes, blending learning refers to two modes:
- Online Teaching
- Face-to-Face Classroom teaching.
Online programmes are equally intellectually and psycho-socially demanding as any other mode. However, students describe this mode as "lonely" even though it allows for access in the remotest part of the world. Our Master's students live and work in areas such as Blanchisseuse, Port-of-Spain, Arima, San Fernando, Erin, and Tobago.
Persons considering online education should also consider whether online education is a viable option for him/her, given his/her lifestyle and individual commitments.
This format of course delivery provides the necessary classroom interaction some may crave while offering a more convenient pace and structure for the professional on the go. CREDI has therefore added the face-to-face component to the programme to ensure relevance to the local situation.
